Since 2018, South Korean consumers have been looking for healthier options for themselves and their families; food products that better suit their lifestyle. As a result, the markets for wellness and organic products have seen strong growth, almost 30%.
On the other hand, the Covid crisis and the awareness of the importance of hydration have accelerated the sale of naturally healthy drinks. These include bottled water, RTD (ready-to-drink) tea and increasingly natural and healthy beverages, especially sugar-free. The reduction in sugar makes the products more sensible to bacterial and mould growth and it is necessary to include decontamination of the packaging, cap and preform in the bottling process before filling.
In the dairy sector, the global health crisis has also influenced the consumption patterns of the South Korean population. Functional and fortified products are therefore very popular, especially in the form of yoghurt drinks. Consumers are looking for healthy products that help build up a good immune system in this health crisis.

In recent years, the profession of water sommelier has become increasingly recognised in South Korea.
The market is becoming more diverse with consumers taking health and beauty considerations into account when choosing their bottled water.
Since 2008, 5 water packaging sterilisation systems have been installed in South Korea.
The first Claranor Pulsed Light sterilisation solution was installed in 2008 at a well-known bottler. On a new line and to decontaminate flat plastic caps at a rate of 60000 bph.
In 2017, 2 equipments were installed and integrated by our partner Loehrke on a new line to decontaminate caps and necks of plastic preforms at a famous South Korean bottler. At high speed: 82000 bph; for a 3-log sterilisation on A brasiliensis
Finally in 2019, on a water filling line, 2 Claranor Pulsed Light sterilisation solutions were installed on a new line. Integrated by our partner Loehrke, the equipment sterilises caps and necks of plastic preforms at medium speed: 54000 bph; for a 3-log reduction on A brasiliensis.

Dairy products are naturally more sensitive and decontamination of the packaging is essential to prevent the growth of mould and bacteria in the product.
For example, in 2019 our equipment supplier partner installed plastic cap decontamination equipment on a new line for milk containers at a rate of 12000 bph and a reduction to 3log on A brasiliensis.
