The Chinese bottling company Yanbian Nongshim was the first to install a global “preforms + caps” pulsed light sterilization solution on its mineral water packaging lines at its Erdao site (north-east China).
Pulsed light technology is a clean process that uses short pulses of intense, broad spectrum light to sterilize packaging surfaces. All kinds of germs, even spores, are immediately killed. Several advantages for Claranor pulsed light sterilization have been highlighted by the industry compared to conventional processes for similar levels of decontamination:
L'Armoricaine Laitière, a French cooperative located in Brittany, packages own brand drinking yogurt on a number of Serac lines. Pulsed light was chosen to decontaminate 32 mm caps for capping 180 g bottles, to replace irradiation.
With the food, and especially, the dairy market in the United States, moving towards green processing when filling sensitive products, health, naturality and sustainability are their new drivers. To answer those new needs, manufacturers produce without preservative or additive, and with low sugar; they innovate with plant-based alternatives.
